“Tough melee fighter, deals area damage around her. Swarm or horde, no problem! She can take them all out with a few spins.”

The Valkyrie card is unlocked from the Bone Pit (Arena 2). She is an area damage, melee troop with high hitpoints and moderately high area damage. She bears orange hair, a double-bladed battle axe, a brown fur coat, and attacks with a powerful whirl of her axe, damaging all the ground troops surrounding her in a 360° area of effect. A Valkyrie card costs 4 Elixir to deploy.

Strategy[]

  • The Valkyrie has a high health to Elixir ratio, slow movement speed and moderate splash damage, so she is most effectively used as a defensive troop. With assistance of a Princess Tower, the Valkyrie can counter almost all non-building-targeting troops, and even some frail air troops thanks to her high hitpoints. Her area damage hits in a 360° radius around her, which prevents her from being surrounded by most swarms.
  • She can gain large value in almost any push with her decently high 360 splash damage. Her excessive amounts of hp allow her to stay alive for a long time to defeat the push.
  • Units with long melee range can attack a Valkyrie without being damaged by her splash, as long as the Valkyrie is currently fighting another troop or is distracted. This means Valkyrie is a suitable counter to Royal Recruits and Guards when she is dropped on top of them, but will struggle to fight against them when they both approach each other, as she will only be able to walk close enough to damage one or two at a time. However, some long ranged units have low to moderate health, so its situational to place the Valkyrie at a distance. The Valkyrie will then have most of her health left for a counterpush.
  • When using her to counter melee ground swarms, one should typically place her at a short distance instead of deploying her on top of the swarm. This minimizes the damage she will take, as she will not be hit while deploying. However, in larger pushes, it may still be recommended to place her inside of the swarm, so that it is eliminated as quickly as possible.
  • Defensively, the Valkyrie is generally most effective when played reactively. Instead of dropping her preemptively against a push, it is better to wait for the support troops to cross the bridge, so that the player can deploy her on top of them and deal area damage to the whole push. Her healthpool also allows her to stay alive for quite a long time, sometimes even enough to counter attack.
  • She is extremely effective against most ranged low-hitpoint to medium-hitpoint troops such as a Musketeer, Witch or Wizard. She can take out most glass cannons in a few swings, and her health pool allows her to stay alive long enough to defeat them. However, she must be placed right next to them so that she does not take unnecessary damage by having to first walk towards them.
  • The Valkyrie is also a very good counter to the Bandit. She can tank the bandit's dash attack and can easily defeat her in a few swings.
  • The Valkyrie can defeat a Dark Prince and Fisherman, as she is very powerful on defense.
  • The Valkyrie works well with the Mini P.E.K.K.A., as they are able to cover each others' main weaknesses. This combo, however, is very susceptible to air units, so be sure to have proper support.
    • Deploying the Valkyrie in front and then place the Mini P.E.K.K.A. directly behind her is the most effective method of attacking as the Valkyrie has more hitpoints and will be sped up by the Mini P.E.K.K.A. If the enemy deploys a swarm, the Valkyrie will eliminate them quickly. If the enemy deploys a tank, the Mini P.E.K.K.A. will walk around her and support her.
    • This combo can also be done with a Prince and a Valkyrie. It is more polarizing since the Prince has more health and his charge ability allows the combo to move even faster, but his damage per second is lower without his charge strike, and he costs more Elixir.
    • A more notorious combo is the with Valkyrie and the Elite Barbarians. The Elite Barbarians will also push the Valkyrie. Their combined damage is enough to take out a Barbarian.
    • The Valkyrie also works extremely well with the Witch. Since they both do area damage, and the Witch can target air, they can take out most swarms, and the Witch's Skeletons can distract and attack single-target units and tanks like the P.E.K.K.A.
    • A cheaper alternative is to combine the Valkyrie with Goblins. While weak to area damage, the Goblins can also push the Valkyrie to the Crown Tower, and their combined damage will be enough to quickly bring it down if not countered.
    • When a glass cannon is placed on top of the Valkyrie, it is almost impossible for that troop to survive even on the player's own side, as she has a massive health advantage over them and can bring them down within a few swings. So it is adviced to put ranged glass cannons such as a Musketeer, at a distance when using them to counter her.
  • Against ranged Troops, such as the Musketeer, placing her at a distance will make her take unneccesary damage. It is better to place her on top of the unit to nullify their range advantage.
  • A lone Valkyrie will deal great damage by herself to a Princess Tower, taking out over half of its health when left ignored, due to her high health and moderately high damage. With the help of the Princess Tower, cheap troops such as the Ice Wizard will pull her over and negate most if not all of the damage.
  • If the Valkyrie manages to lock onto a Crown Tower, the defending player should not place ranged defending troops too close to their Tower, or the unit may take unnecessary damage, and vice versa. If the unit is placed too close to their Tower, the Valkyrie will end up getting substantial chip damage to the unit and the Crown Tower.
  • Tanks of similar cost, like the Knight or Mini P.E.K.K.A can counter her effectively with the help of a Crown Tower. Most of their hitpoints will be preserved, allowing for a possible counterpush.
  • The Valkyrie can be countered with several cheap cards. Her slow move speed can be exploited by Spear Goblins, Guards, Dart Goblin, and Skeletons to stall her when placed at a distance, allowing the player's Crown Towers to deal major damage. Air cards like Bats or Minions can fully counter her provided they are placed early and that the Valkyrie has no support behind her.
  • Building-targeting units like the Ice Golem or Battle Ram can kite the Valkyrie to the other lane when placed on the fourth tile from the bridge, 1 tile into the other lane, helping the player defend against her while also setting up a push in the other lane.
  • Inferno Tower and Inferno Dragon are effective counters if the opponent places the Valkyrie alone. The Inferno Tower should be placed at a distance so that the Valkyrie has to walk further, while the Inferno Dragon should be placed in front of her, as it is unable to be targeted by her. The Inferno Tower is a negative Elixir trade, but its health will be almost fully intact, allowing it to defend against other troops.
  • A very powerful combination is the Hog Rider, the Musketeer, and the Valkyrie. The Musketeer counters air cards, and works well with the other two troops in a counterpush. The Valkyrie can tank for the Hog on offense and the Musketeer on defense. This combo is often called the Trifecta.
    • However, this push can be stopped by Minion Horde, as the Musketeer is not capable of one-shotting Minions of equal level.
    • This push can also be crippled by the Bowler, as his knockback and damage slow down all three units.
    • This push can also be completely nullified by the Rocket for a +6 elixir trade.
  • The Valkyrie is a great counter to the Graveyard since she can quickly eliminate the Skeletons with her 360-degree spin attack and can survive every damaging spell in the game. If the opponent Freezes, the tower will take more damage without other Graveyard counters present, but the Valkyrie will still have a majority of her health left for a counterpush.
  • A Valkyrie can be used in tandem with a Balloon. Placing the Valkyrie in front of the Balloon makes her soak up the damage of the Crown Tower while dealing with smaller units that may target the Balloon, leaving the Balloon with a higher chance of reaching the tower. However, this combo is highly susceptible to air units and a building + tank combo.
  • The Valkyrie can be used to tank for and counter an X-Bow. Her high hitpoints and moderately high area damage attack can clear out frail support cards that come alongside an X-Bow. However, she can be blocked with a tank like the Knight, which will usually win the duel with the help of the X-Bow. The player should consider placing her farther back on their side to tank for the X-Bow and protect her from ranged troops, while using another card, like a ranged troop, to damage down the X-Bow.
