“He chops trees by day and hunts The Log by night. His bottle of Rage spills everywhere when he's defeated.”

The Lumberjack card is unlocked from the Serenity Peak (Arena 14) or a Legendary Chest. He is a very fast, single-target, melee troop with moderate hitpoints. Upon death, he drops a bottle of Rage that increases the attack and movement speed of friendly troops and buildings in the spell's effective radius. A Lumberjack card costs 4 Elixir to deploy.

Strategy[]

  • The Lumberjack can be considered a more expensive, but potentially more rewarding version of the Rage spell, being able to attack and defend on its own at the cost of more Elixir and less control over the Rage's location.
    • It is recommended to use him in tandem with other troops because when he dies, the Rage will increase the other troops' (in its effective radius) damage output with no extra cost. Thus, it is somewhat wasteful to use him alone. For this strategy to work, he should be placed near or at the front of a push so when he dies, many of the troops in the push will still survive and undergo the Rage effect, making them much more deadly.
    • He can also be used defensively. If he is defeated near your Princess Tower, the resulting Rage spell will be dropped on your Crown Tower, increasing its attack speed. You can also capitalize on this by placing other buildings in front of or near the Crown Tower.
  • As such, most, if not, all combos and strategies that use the Rage work with him.
    • The Lumberjack pairs well with a Balloon in a deadly combo known as LumberLoon. Place the Lumberjack first at the bridge, then the Balloon, forcing the opposing tower to the Lumberjack first. When he is destroyed, his Rage will increase the Balloon's speed and attack speed as usual, dealing major damage, or defeating the Crown Tower, so this push should never be left alone. On top of that, the Lumberjack compliments the Loon by scrapping glass cannons such as the Dart Goblin or Musketeer.
      • A Rocket can defeat this push for a positive Elixir trade of 3 if the Rocket is placed at the right place at the right time. The Lightning can cripple this push, but not destroy it.
      • A Minion Horde can also defend this push for a positive 4 Elixir trade. The Minions would effectively take out the Lumberjack and take out the Balloon in time before it reaches the Crown Tower. But keep in mind that the opponent can have Arrows or Fireball, leaving you at a negative elixir trade.
    • You can use the Lumberjack in combination with a Minion Horde. Place the Lumberjack first and the Minion Horde right behind. The Arena Tower will focus on the Lumberjack first and the Minion Horde will deal massive damage to the tower.
      • An Ice Golem and Fire Spirit combo is powerful enough to destroy this push for a 6 Elixir advantage. Place the Ice Golem first to distract the Lumberjack and Minions. Ice Golem's death damage will bring the Minions' health low enough for the Fire spirit to one shot them. However, this might result in the Lumberjack gaining some chip damage on the Tower.
      • This can also be stopped by Arrows to defeat the Minions and a swarm card such as the Skeleton Army or Goblin Gang to deal with the Lumberjack.
    • Pairing the Lumberjack with the Elite Barbarians can decimate a tower very quickly, but at a very high Elixir cost of 10 Elixir. This can be countered with air units such as Minion Horde or Mega Minion, brute force such as Royal Recruits, or spells like Rocket. The Ice Wizard can be an effective counter to slow the attack and movement speed of the push. A Skeleton Army can also destroy this push if left alone.
    • The Lumberjack can also be used as a meatshield for an X-Bow. His decent health and hitspeed is good at protecting the X-Bow from tanks or swarms and if he happens to be killed, the Rage will boost the X-Bow's hitspeed significantly.
  • A Lumberjack should almost never be ignored as its damage is high, and its fast hitspeed and move speed makes it more likely that it will hit a Crown Tower even with a sliver of health left. Left alone, it will almost fully defeat a Princess Tower.
  • An effective strategy is to place a tank, such as a Giant, then support it with the Lumberjack. If your opponent ignores the Lumberjack, he'll be able to take out troops or buildings attacking the tank due to his high damage. If they eliminate him, his rage will cause the tank to get in lots of additional hits. However, this strategy is very weak to swarms, so bring a cheap area damage spell like Zap or Arrows.
  • Even though the Lumberjack is best used in affiliation with other troops so that they can benefit from the dropped Rage, it is not wise to ignore the Lumberjack. Left alone, he can deal lots of damage to the player's tower.
  • Combining the Lumberjack with the Ice Spirit can leave a Crown Tower with very little health. The combination can also be used in defense to clear off small pushes.
  • He has similar damage per second as the Mini P.E.K.K.A, so he is not to be ignored. Unlike the Mini P.E.K.K.A, his high hit speed can eliminate Goblins and Skeletons much more quickly so have other troops at the ready. The Lumberjack, however, is still weak to the Skeleton Army. There are just too many units for the Lumberjack to defeat fast enough.
  • If you place the Lumberjack near the Three Musketeers you can surprise the enemy with the sheer speed and damage, but put it between the Musketeers as he will be gunned down in a range. However, some Musketeers will still last.
  • When countering the Lumberjack with the Mini P.E.K.K.A, don't deploy it directly on top of the Lumberjack as its fast attack speed can do a lot of damage to it and even possibly take the Mini P.E.K.K.A out.
  • He is also useful for protecting other glass cannons from the Valkyrie due to his high damage per second.
  • A Lumberjack can be used to counter a Graveyard and Poison combination. He will quickly defeat the Skeletons as they appear, and he will survive the Poison. He can clean up every single Skeleton from Graveyard with the help of the Crown Tower, as long as there's nothing tanking for the Graveyard. If there is something tanking for the Graveyard, the Lumberjack won't be able to hit all the Skeletons fast enough. They will soon overwhelm and defeat the Lumberjack and do heavy damage to, if not completely destroy, the Crown Tower.
  • Units such as the Bowler or Mega Knight are effective against Lumberjack combos as their knockback somewhat counteracts the Rage's effect, allowing them to survive with sufficient health for a counterattack. However, if there are aerial units behind the Lumberjack, these units will be less effective at defending.

History[]

  • The Lumberjack was added to the game on 4/7/16 with the Tournaments Update.
  • On 24/8/16, a Balance Update changed the Lumberjack's speed from Fast to Very Fast, increased his hit speed from 1.1 seconds to 0.7 seconds and decreased his damage by 23%.
  • On 19/9/16, a Balance Update decreased the Rage's attack speed boost to 30% (from 40%) and its duration by 2 sec. This also affected the Lumberjack's Rage.
  • On 1/11/16, a Balance Update increased the Rage's attack speed boost to 35% (from 30%).
  • On 15/12/16, a Balance Update increased the Lumberjack's hitpoints by 6%.
  • On 13/3/17, the March 2017 Update increased the Rage's level such that a Tournament Standard Lumberjack drops a Tournament Standard Rage, a maxed Lumberjack drops a maxed Rage, etc.
  • On 19/4/17, a Balance Update increased the Lumberjack's hitpoints by 4%.
  • On 24/1/18, a Balance Update increased the Lumberjack´s hitpoints by 7%.
  • On 5/8/19, the August 2019 Update increased the Lumberjack's hit speed by 0.1 seconds (from 0.7 seconds to 0.8 seconds) making the Lumberjack attack slower.
  • The 2021 Quarter 2 Update moved the Arena to unlock the Lumberjack from Frozen Peak (Arena 8) to Serenity Peak (Arena 14).
  • On 27/10/21, the 2021 Quarter 3 Update added the level 14 Lumberjack.

Trivia[]

  • During the Lumberjack's deploy time, he can be seen drinking his bottle of Rage.
  • The Lumberjack is responsible for creating The Log, which is hinted at on several different occasions:
    • In The Log's card description, it states the cause of its creation was "a spilt bottle of Rage", which is a property exclusive to the Lumberjack.
    • The Lumberjack's description states "and hunts The Log by night".
    • In the Clash of Clans animation "No More Clashmas?", The Log has a flashback to its creation where the Lumberjack is seen spilling the Rage spell in a forest.
  • The Lumberjack says words when attacking such as "Chop chop!" or “Timber!”. He also laughs.
  • The Lumberjack has the highest damage per second out of all Legendaries (Excluding the Sparky and the Inferno Dragon once it reaches its final damage stage, and all of the combined Skeletons from the Graveyard), and overall one of the highest damage per second troops in the game.
  • The Lumberjack is the only troop that drops a spell upon dying.
  • The Super Valkyrie troop in Clash of Clans is likely inspired from the Lumberjack, with both being fast melee troops that drop a Rage spell after death. However, unlike the Super Valkyrie, the Lumberjack's Rage is identical to ones not used by the Lumberjack.
