“A slow, tanky ranger whose crown is heavier than his cannon”
The Royal Giant is a card that belongs in the
Giant and
Ranger traits. It spawns a single-target ranged troop with high hitpoints, moderate damage, and moderate attack speed. The Royal Giant takes the appearance of a Giant, except that he sports a dark navy coat with red cuffs, has a mustache and bigger mutton chops, wears a crown and a chainmail, wields a Cannon with two gold ridges in the middle in one hand, and carries a cannonball in the other. A Royal Giant card costs 2
to deploy.
Strategy[]
- While he is a ranged troop, the Royal Giant has a notable amount of hitpoints, especially for his 2-Golden Elixir cost. This allows him to be a tank in the earlier rounds, especially if the player's team has a lot of ranged units. The payback is that his attack speed is low, meaning that he won't hit enemies as often.
- His cheap cost also allows him to be upgraded to a 3-Star with Spirit Empress if the player is lucky enough.
- Because of his high hitpoints, he can stall
Assassin troops long enough so that the player's other troops can take them down. The same logic can apply when facing a Mortar, making it distracted by the Royal Giant for long enough so that the player takes all of the opponent's troops and wins the round. - Activating Royal Giant's
Giant trait allows him to be even more durable than normally with the damage reduction ability. - Activating his
Ranger trait will make him attack faster with each hit he deals, allowing him to mitigate his slow attack speed and making him deadlier against enemy units.

Trivia[]
- Cannons were invented in China during the twelfth century. It was most likely developed in parallel or as an evolution of an earlier gunpowder weapon called the fire lance. Cannons were used for warfare by the late thirteenth century in the Yuan dynasty and spread throughout Eurasia in the fourteenth century. During the late Middle Ages, large and small cannons were developed for siege and field battles. The cannon replaced prior siege weapons such as the trebuchet. After the late Middle Ages, most large cannons were abandoned in favor of greater numbers of lighter, more maneuverable field artillery.
- The Royal Giant is the only Merge Tactics unit associated with cannonry.
- Oddly, the cannonball he holds is larger than the cannonball fired from his cannon. Even so, the Royal Giant can be seen loading this cannonball back into the cannon during the recoil animation after he fires.
- The Royal Giant is 1 of 10 Merge Tactics troops associated with nobility, with the others being Knight, Musketeer, Prince, Mega Knight, Princess, Royal Ghost, Golden Knight, Skeleton King, and the Archer Queen.
- The Royal Giant's card render is identical to his card image, except that his cannon is closer to him and aims at a different angle.
