“Long-range building that deals damage to the furthest enemy, shooting boulders that go boom!”

The Mortar is a building that belongs to the Building: Mortar Modifier. It can also be spawned by the Battle Machine. It spawns a single-target ranged building with low hitpoints, high damage, and very low attack speed. The Mortar will always attack the furthest target in its range. The Mortar takes the appearance of a black cylindrical tube with a metal base, a wooden gimbal on each side with a stud on them held by iron stakes and a metal disc, and a large blue band near the muzzle.

Strategy[]

  • As a long-ranged building, the Mortar is best used in the backline, away from enemy troops. That way, he can attack enemy units from a safe distance. The best row to place it is the second row, away from its corners, given that the Mortar would be able to cover the entire battlefield and avoid Assassin (Trait)Assassin troops.
    • With Battle Machine, if the player couldn't obtain an X-Bow or an Elixir Collector on games with Battle Machine, then they can place Mortar either on the first row on the hex to the side of either corner, or on either corner of the second row. While those placements make the Mortar unable to target the enemy's backmost row or the right-most/left-most corner of the battlefield respectively, it can be used to contain a ranged troop inside, making reaching said troop harder due to the extra defense line, as well as making losing due to buildings not counting as team members harder.
  • Because it targets the furthest target in its range, the Mortar can be used to defeat problematic ranged units, like Musketeer, Witch, Princess, or X-Bow before they are able to get a lot of value, while easily bypassing enemy melee troops that can be used for tanking, like Valkyrie, P.E.K.K.A., Mega Knight, Golden Knight, Skeleton King, and Monk. This also works against Blaster (Trait)Blaster and Ranger (Trait)Ranger set-ups. However, because it doesn't deal splash damage like Princess, it isn't the best at dealing with multiple units at once.
  • Since the Mortar's projectile is very slow, it is very likely to miss against moving targets, making it a poor counter against Bandit. Against other troops, the player should use tanky troops like Valkyrie, P.E.K.K.A. Mega Knight, Electro Giant, Goblin Machine, Golden Knight, Skeleton King, and Monk to keep enemy troops from moving for the most time.

  • The Mortar is one of the first buildings to be added to Merge Tactics, alongside the Inferno Tower, Tesla, X-Bow, and the Elixir Collector.
  • The Mortar's stats are the highest or lowest among all Merge Tactics buildings. More specifically:
    • The Mortar has the longest range out of all Merge Tactics buildings, with a range of 6 hexes. It is also tied with the Princess for the longest range out of all Merge Tactics units.
    • The Mortar has the highest damage out of all Merge Tactics buildings, with 240.
    • The Mortar has the lowest attack speed out of all Merge Tactics buildings, with an attack speed of 2.5 seconds.
