“And thrice were their afflictions... nixed, vexed, and hexed! Enemy troops in the area will receive extra damage from attacks and become Goblins when destroyed. Deals damage to enemies over time.”

The Goblin Curse is an Epic card that is unlocked from Mud Pit (Goblins 2). It is an area-damage, air-targeting spell with a large radius and very low damage. When used, it turns all destroyed troops in its radius into Goblins and increases the damage dealt to all opposing troops in its radius by 20%. A Goblin Curse card costs 2 Elixir to deploy.

Strategy[]

  • The Goblin Curse has extremely high potential on offense and defense for its Elixir cost. This is mostly due to its damage amplification helping wipe out opposing troops very quickly. This is especially useful in Beatdown decks, where the user will have 1 large push consisting of many high DPS cards.
  • Be extremely careful when placing swarm units, like Bats or Skeleton Army, behind your Crown Tower as the Goblin Curse will turn them into Goblins given enough time. These Goblins will then attack your Crown Tower, dealing heavy damage or even destroying a Crown Tower if not answered properly.
    • In scenarios where the user’s swarm units are turned into Goblins, using spells like The Log and Barbarian Barrel are quick and very effective temporary solutions to them as they’ll do more than enough damage to 1 shot Goblins. More permanent solutions involve cards with high area damage like Executioner and Evolved Bomber as they’ll stay in the Arena after finishing them off.
  • Against tanks, such as Giant or P.E.K.K.A, the damage amplifier of the Goblin Curse can be very useful in low Elixir situations, allowing low Elixir cards, such as Goblins, to take out most tanks with the Goblin Curse’s assistance for a positive Elixir trade and potentially counterattack; which may result in minor chip damage on the Crown Tower if ignored.
  • Currently, the Goblin Curse is easily one of the best counters for Graveyard, being able to almost always fully counter it with the help of the Tower Princess or Dagger Duchess for a +3 positive Elixir trade. Also, the Skeletons spawned from the Graveyard will turn into Goblins, creating a threatening counterattack under certain circumstances.
  • The Goblin Curse has incredible synergy with the Void. The damage of the Void being amplified by 20% and the Curse itself does insanely high damage to single units, even being able to take out a Bowler for a neutral Elixir trade. Against swarms, the damage amplification allows the Void to get more damage on swarms, like Minion Horde, turning them into Goblins much faster than if the Void wasn’t used.
    • However, this synergy is slightly less effective against buildings as they can’t be turned in Goblins like troops can, leaving the damage from the Void and the damage amplification from the Goblin Curse as the only benefits.
  • The Goblin Giant is a great offensive combo in combination with the Goblin Curse due to the 2 Spear Goblins in the backpack. If light swarms, such as Goblin Gang, are used to deal with the Goblin Giant, the Spear Goblins and Goblin Curse will do enough damage to turn these fragile troops into Goblins, adding to the push and increasing offensive pressure. Also, the damage amplification of the spears will reduce the severity of the counterattack if a heavy swarm, like Barbarians, is used instead.
  • Kiting troops into the other lane with an Ice Golem is significantly more effective if the Goblin Curse is used in tandem with it due to the damage amplification, allowing for the Crown Towers to deal much more damage to the kited troops; sometimes this can force a small counterattack if enough troops were destroyed within the radius of the Goblin Curse.
  • Due to the Goblin Curse’s very low damage over its duration, it’s advised to nearly always avoid using it for spell cycling onto the Crown Towers. Doing so, in most cases, will essentially result in a waste of 2 Elixir and waste its potential to get more value against the opponent’s units.
  • The Tornado can be a valuable synergy with the Goblin Curse when used in large offensive pushes. The Tornado will keep opposing troops within the Goblin Curse’s radius for slightly longer, crippling their defense faster due to the damage amplification. However, this is a somewhat expensive combination, so it should ideally be used in Overtime, where Elixir is much more prevalent.

Trivia[]

  • Before the Goblin Curse was released, the Goblin Curse’s overall damage was decreased by 41.9% and decreased Crown Tower damage by 80% (from 70%).
  • The Goblin Curse is the only spell that can turn troops into other troops. In this case, the troops are turned into Goblins.
  • When the spell is deployed, a whispering voice will say "Baby Goblin" and laugh. This is most likely a reference to the Baby Goblins tower troop card and the 10-hour video "BabyGoblin.exe.”
