“Express yourself during battle with Emotes!”
Emotes

Emotes are a form of expression which primarily allow players to communicate during a battle. Most Emotes play an animation accompanied by a sound effect. Emotes can be sent while participating in a battle, when spectating a battle, or in the chat of a Clan by tapping the corresponding button.

Types of Emotes[]

There are three main types of Emotes: Regular, Exclusive, and Taunts (text bubbles). The only visual difference between regular Emotes and Exclusive Emotes is that Exclusive Emotes have a Legendary border around them. From a technical standpoint, Exclusive Emotes are only available for a limited amount of time, and can never be obtained once the time period has passed. There are certain regular Emotes which are partially exclusive upon their release; they lack a Legendary border, but will not appear in the Shop's Emotes section for purchase until a certain time period has passed.

There is a “third” Emote type which can only be accessed when the player is participating in battle, and they appear as text bubbles. These Emotes are called Taunts and only contain the basic pop-in animation and no sound effect, but instead of showing an animation, they display a line of text. There are currently only 6 Taunts, all available by default. In English, they are (from top to bottom, left to right) “Good luck!”, “Well played!”, “Wow!”, “Thanks!”, “Good game!”, and “Oops.” Some Trainers (e.g., Trainer Earl) have custom Taunts, such as “Deploy your troops!” , "You are learning fast!" , and “Welcome to the show!

Organization[]

Outside of battle, the player can see their Emote collection by tapping the “Cards” section at the bottom of the main menu, then tapping the tab labelled with 3 speech bubbles at the top of the screen, next to the “Battle Deck” section. Here, they can create an “Emote Deck” of 8 Emotes, which will appear immediately upon tapping the ellipsis speech bubble in battle. Below the Emote Deck is the player's entire Emote collection, along with a list of non-Exclusive Emotes that have yet to be collected.

Usage[]

When the player is participating in battle, they can access their Emote collection by tapping the ellipsis speech bubble in the bottom left corner of the screen. Once tapped, the player will see their Emote Deck, and text bubbles below it. Tapping on any Emote will use it, playing an animation beside the player's own King's Tower. Players can also access their whole collection by tapping the white arrow to the right of their Emote Deck. If the player has more than 16 Emotes in their collection, they can scroll right to find the rest of them. The player can also “mute” Emotes which prevent them from seeing, hearing, or sending them by tapping the general prohibition icon to the left of their Emote Deck. While the mute function is active, the icon will change to a green checkmark, which will unmute the player and allow showing Emotes. In order to prevent spamming, the player can use up to 100 Emotes per battle.

When the player is spectating a battle, they can access their Emote collection by tapping the ellipsis speech bubble in the bottom right corner of the screen. The function is nearly identical, except Taunts cannot be sent and their Emotes will appear on the side of the battle, although smaller and without sound.

When the player is in a Clan's chat, they can access their Emote collection by tapping the smiley face button next to the text button. Their Emote Deck and Taunts do not appear. Instead, all of their Emotes will appear in pages of 20 in chronological order, with the oldest Emotes appearing at the top and left the newer Emotes appearing closer to the bottom and right. Tapping an Emote will send it to the chat. Clan members will hear the sound and see the animation of the Emote if they are in the chat when it is sent, and all members can replay the Emote by tapping on it.

Obtaining Emotes[]

From the start of the game, the player has access to 4 default King Emotes and the 6 Taunts. They can obtain additional Emotes through various means:

  • In the Shop, special offers containing an Emote may appear from time to time, either regular or Exclusive.
  • Below the Shop's Daily Deals, there is an “Emotes” section which displays 3 random, non-Exclusive Emotes (which Emotes appear are different for each player). They can be purchased for 250 Gems each.
  • In the Events tab, there are sometimes Special Challenges which contain an Emote, regular or Exclusive, as a reward for reaching a certain amount of wins.
  • On the Trophy Road, a few Emotes can be obtained by reaching certain amounts of Trophies on the Trophy Road. Currently, these are the only way to obtain these Emotes (they do not currently appear in the Shop's “Emotes” section). The Emotes are 59, 92, and 201 on the page.
    • Similarly, Emotes 263 and 299 can be obtained by reaching Ultimate Champion in the Path of Legends. In addition, an Emote will unlock upon reaching Master I; the specific emote unlocked changes based on the season.
  • On the paid side of Pass Royale, reaching a certain Crown tier will award an Exclusive Emote each season.
  • In a Global Tournament, the Top 100 players of the Tournament will be awarded the Exclusive Emote 140.
  • Emotes also can be obtained from the Season Shop for Season Tokens.
  • There are certain events outside the game which can award Emotes. For example, by linking a Supercell ID to Clash Royale, the player can obtain an Exclusive Hay Day Chicken Emote.

Emote List[]

E” indicates that the particular Emote is Exclusive and will never appear in the Shop's “Emotes” section for purchase.

(Note: The numbers corresponding to each Emote here may not necessarily line up with the order in which they are displayed in-game. They are numbered for convenience, such as when referring to them in other areas of the wiki.)

History[]

2016

  • The first 4 King Emotes and the 6 Taunts were added with Clash Royale's game launch on 4/1/2016.
  • On 19/9/2016, the September 2016 Update added the function to mute Emotes during battle.
  • On 1/11/2016, the November 2016 Update, made it so that muting Emotes would fully mute them. Previously, muting Emotes would make them appear as a bubble with "..." as its text.

2017

  • On 3/4/2017, a maintenance break, increased the number of times players could use the emote button (known as taunt button at the time) per game to 100 (from 14).

2018

  • On 25/4/2018, the Clan Wars Update, made it so that Emote muting now persists between battles, and allowed spectators to use Emotes. It also removed some sounds from the original 4 King Emotes, making them only have 1 sound each.
  • On 20/6/2018, the Summer 2018 Update, started adding new Emotes to the game, purchasable in the Shop.
  • On 27/6/2018, an Optional Update, made it so that the original 4 King Emotes would be shown in the bottom row during battle if the player does not own any other Emotes. It also fixed an issue causing the player's 2v2 partner's "card hovering" to disappear when Emotes are muted.
  • On 5/9/2018, the September 2018 Update, added the function to use Emotes in Clan chat.
  • On 19/11/2018, free CRL Emotes became available to any player that created a Fantasy Royale team from the News section of the game. After creating a team, the Emotes would be added to the player's account within a few days.
  • On 1/12/2018, by linking your Supercell ID with your YouTube account during the CRL finals 2018, you would obtain an exclusive Goblin Emote.
  • On 5/12/2018, the December 2018 Update, added the ability to buy single Emotes for 250 Gems from the Shop, with three different Emotes being available each day. Also, players who had previously earned at least 1 Legend Trophy were given an exclusive Royal Ghost Emote.
  • Starting from 21/12/2018, some Emotes become available through Special Event Challenges.

2019

  • On 13/2/2019, an Optional Update, fixed an issue where the Emotes images would not being removed from Shop after being purchased.
  • Starting from 2/3/2019, some Emotes could be obtained by participating in a tournament created by a YouTube content creator selected by Supercell. This would be repeated during multiple Clash Royale anniversaries.
  • On 15/4/2019, the April 2019 Update, added Emotes that could be obtained through the Trophy Road. It also made it so that the same Emotes would be less likely to appear in the Shop.
  • Starting from 16/4/2019, exclusive Emotes are displayed together with a Legendary aura.
  • On 30/4/2019, an Optional Update, fixed an issue where Emotes were not loading for some players.
  • Starting from 1/7/2019 with the July 2019 Update, some Emotes become available through Pass Royale rewards.
  • On 30/9/2019, the End of September 2019 Update, added an Exclusive Hay Day Chicken Emote that could be obtained by linking your Clash Royale account to Supercell ID. It also renamed the Emote Deck to 'Personalize'.
  • On 2/10/2019, an Optional Update, fixed an issue where an incorrect Emote would show when connecting to Supercell ID.
