Introduction

Mortar LaneCleaner is a simple Mortar deck comprised of units made to work well with Tornado. It directly punishes people who defend Mortar by placing units collinear to distract it, as Goblinstein/Evolved Bomber can easily wipe out/punish the placement of a card directly on the bridge's lane. This deck mainly works with at-the-bridge Mortar placements.

Card Roles[]

Tower Troop:
Mortar: The Mortar is your main win condition. Unlike the other siege win-condition, the X-Bow, the Mortar has a blind spot. It will not shoot at targets within its blind spot, and if the only card distracting it from hitting the tower enters said blind spot, it will lock on to and fire at the tower. It is INCREDIBLE on defense, especially in conjunction with your other cards. If you have the Mortar/Evolution, use it.
Bomber: The Bomber functions as a cheap splash card you can use to defend your Mortar from cheap ground swarms. If you have the Bomber/Evolution, use it! It will help clear out lanes and even get shots onto the opponent's tower if conditions are right.
Goblinstein: The Goblinstein is the cornerstone of Mortar LaneCleaner. The main use of the Goblinstein, in the context of this deck, is the ability, which is capable of mowing down low-to-moderate health swarm cards that may distract the Mortar. The ability can also chip at the health of higher HP targets, allowing the Mortar, Ice Wizard, and/or Bomber to take them out. The Goblinstein is also helpful on defense, especially if you have your Bomber out of cycle.
Knight: The Knight is your mini-tank. You can use him on defense to distract high-HP targets for your other cards to damage, he can tank for your support cards if you want a basic counter-push, he can be placed in front of the Mortar to tank damage from air troops when your Ice Wizard/Bats are out of cycle - he's a jack of all trades. You can also use the Knight/Evolution if you don't have Evo Bomber or Mortar.
Ice Wizard: The Ice Wizard is your main air counter and defensive card. He can sit behind the Mortar on offense to chip away at defensive troops, kill low-HP swarms, and assist the Knight/Goblinstein. He's incredible on defense, especially against Balloon, swarm spams, and large pushes comprised of many troops all tightly compacted. In conjunction with the Mortar, Knight, and Tornado, he can effectively stop any push, ground or air.
Bats: The Bats are your secondary air counter and cycle card. When used with the Ice Wizard, they can easy stop air pushes. You can cycle them in the back, place them in front of your Mortar to distract things like Inferno Dragons, and more. Personally, I wouldn't use the Bats/Evolution, but if its your only Evolution, use it. If you have any other combination of two Evos, use them over the Evo Bats.
Tornado: The Tornado is what keeps this deck together. The deck is built around Tornado, it serves so many functions - It can pull troops into the Mortar's blind spot, it can force troops into the Goblinstein's chain lightning, the Mortar's shots, the Bomber's bombs, and/or the Ice Wizard's ice shots. Its main function is on defense, where it can pull small, squishy troops into a troop being targeted by the Mortar, where they'll be demolished by the high Splash damage. It can pull cards locked onto the Princess Towers into the King's Tower for easy activations as well. This card is absolutely REQUIRED for this deck!
Goblin Gang: Finally, the Goblin Gang is a more-or-less replaceable (at least, in the context of this deck) swarm that can be used in conjunction with a distracting card to take out pushes. It helps with getting rid of Princes, mini-tanks, and more. If you're going to take your own creative liberties with this deck, start with replacing the Goblin Gang.

Strategy[]

  • This deck's main issue is that it has no medium/large spell. You want to take out Barbarians? Use Bomber/Mortar. Small swarms? Ice Wizard or Bomber. You can use the Tornado to slowly damage the opponent's Princess Towers, but don't use it liberally, as you might need it on defense.
  • Do NOT let a game go to two or three towers! Your opponent can easy place troops in your pocket to distract your Mortar, making it incredibly difficult for the Mortar to lock onto the opponent's Towers. If a game does go to two or three towers, use the Goblinstein as your win condition.
  • The Mortar is incredible on defense and has high-HP. You can use it to distract targets with ease, so don't be afraid to use it on defense! If the Mortar is locked onto a card and you want to pull other troops into what the Mortar is locked onto, place the Tornado on what the Mortar is firing at and not on what you want to pull. Though it may seem obvious, you might place the Tornado incorrectly and the Mortar shot will completely miss.
