Goblin is a primary trait in Merge Tactics. When multiple
Goblin troops are on the field, the next round will grant the player one random
Goblin troop.
Effects[]
“You’ll get an extra random Goblin for free next round”
On the next round, the player will receive one free
Goblin troop.
“[2] Gain a 2 or 3-Elixir Goblin”
When 2
Goblin troops are on the field, the free troop is a 2 or a 3-Elixir
Goblin troop.
“[4] Gain a 3 or 4-Elixir Goblin”
When 4
Goblin troops are on the field, the free troop is a 3 or a 4-Elixir
Goblin troop.
Strategy[]
- The
Goblin trait is a cheap and quick way to get many troops on the field. Paired with the fact that Goblin and Spear Goblin cost only 2 Elixir, the player can spend the gained Elixir in other troops/trait combos, while having a higher chance of upgrading
Goblin troops to higher Star levels, allowing the player to utilize both the
Goblin troops and other desired troops.
- Sometimes, it's better for the player to leave only the
Goblin trait's 2-troop effect, as they'll be able to focus on upgrading the cheaper troops. However, getting only Dart Goblin and Goblin Machine from the 4-troop bonus is also good, as the player would still need to spend less Elixir for the powerful units, namely Goblin Machine due to his rockets, especially on set-ups where they would have a lot of value.
- Sometimes, it's better for the player to leave only the
- Alternatively, the
Goblin trait's ability can be used as a free way to get extra Elixir. This is especially useful with the Spirit Empress ruler, as her Ruler Ability lets the player get x2 Elixir from a Merge. With the
Goblin trait ability, a player would get +2, +3, and +4 Elixir from gaining a Goblin/Spear Goblin, Dart Goblin, or a Goblin Machine from the ability, respectively, and +2, +4, and +6 Elixir from 2-Star, 3-Star, and 4-Star upgrades, respectively. This strategy is mostly used for when 2
Goblin troops are used to complement another set-up by having the function of getting more Elixir for the player to spend on their desired set-up's other troops. - Goblin Queen is another Ruler who allows the player to greatly benefit from using
Goblin, due to her Greener Grin Ruler Modifier giving them a 33% chance of getting a
Goblin after an enemy troop is defeated, making merging
Goblin troops happen more often. - It is important to note that
Goblin's ability is one of the few ways of getting more troops outside of the shop pool limit of 8 cards across all players. It's also the most reliable, as other means are all related to Modifiers, unless the player has Goblin Queen. - The
Goblin trait can also be combined with other traits to give the player a bigger advantage:
- With Goblin's
Assassin trait,
Assassin troops leap into the enemy's backline troops to quickly dispose of them, which is useful to counter any set-ups that rely on ranged troops/traits to deal damage, like
Blaster,
Fire,
Mage, and
Ranger - With Spear Goblin's
Blaster trait,
Blaster troops deal more damage the more enemies are away from the
Blaster targeting them, which means utilizing meat-shields to distract enemy units is important. Musketeer will make this strategy easier with her knockback ability. - With Dart Goblin's
Ranger trait,
Ranger troops get an attack speed buff with each attack, melting the enemy's troops when properly supported. - With Goblin Machine's
Juggernaut trait, both him and other troops from the trait will get shielded, as well as troops behind them. They'll also become immune to control effects for 11 seconds, such as
Mage's effect, Musketeer's knockback bullets, Prince's charge, and Electro Wizard's super shocks.
- With Goblin's
History[]
2025
- The
Goblin trait was added to the game with Merge Tactics' launch in the 2025 Quarter 2 Update on 30/6/2025, with 4 cards available, those being Goblin, Spear Goblin, Dart Goblin, and Goblin Machine. - On 15/10/2025, a Balance Update increased the 4/4
Goblin 3 or 4-Elixir Goblin Chance increased to 100% (from 60%) and added a chance to get a 3-Elixir
Goblin at 2/4.
Trivia[]
- Goblins are small, grotesque, monstrous creatures that appear in the folklore of multiple European cultures. First attested in stories from the Middle Ages, they are ascribed conflicting abilities, temperaments, and appearances depending on the story and country of origin, ranging from mischievous household spirits to malicious, bestial thieves. They often have magical abilities similar to a fairy or demon, such as the ability to shapeshift. Similar creatures include duendes, kobolds, leprechauns, and ghouls.
Goblin is the only non-Modifier way of bypassing the shop pool limit of 8 cards across all players.
