“Defensive building with a long range. Shoots big boulders that deal area damage, but cannot hit targets that get very close!”
The Barbarian Launcher is a temporary Common card, only available in certain 1 week Challenges. It spawned an area-damage, ground-targeting, very long-ranged, building with high hitpoints and extremely low damage. It had a blind spot, preventing it from attacking enemies inside it. Every attack that it did would also spawn a Barbarian. A Barbarian Launcher card cost 5 Elixir to deploy.
Strategy[]
- Like the Mortar, the Barbarian Launcher is able to target the enemy's Crown Towers from the player's own side, making it an effective offensive building. It can deal more damage than the Mortar, due to the Barbarians being spawned, and the higher attack speed. However, its immediate damage is significantly lower.
- The Barbarian Launcher is also able to damage enemy defensive buildings and troops from the player's side of the Arena to make way for a push. The Barbarians spawned from them can also help tank for other troops.
- As a defense, the Barbarian Launcher can be placed in the center of the player's territory, preferably closer to the King's Tower, so opposing troops cannot get to the Crown Towers without defensive resistance.
- Because the Barbarians can attack all ground troops, using the Royal Giant to tank shots from it is ineffective, as the Barbarians will slowly defeat the Royal Giant, and then proceed towards the Crown Tower. It is more effective to distract it with troops that target ground troops, especially ones that deal area damage, such as the Bowler.
- When facing the Barbarian Launcher, try to place slow building targeting troops like the Ice Golem one tile into the other lane. This will distract the Barbarian Launcher completely, due to its low DPS and Ice Golem's high hitpoints.
- Generally, the player should consider attacking in the other lane with their main offensive cards, in order to prevent the Barbarian Launcher from attacking their Crown Tower.
- A Barbarian Launcher takes 3.5 seconds to deploy, giving the defender ample time to place cards to distract the Barbarian Launcher and prevent it from locking onto their Crown Towers, as well as deal with its supporting troops. With sufficient cards, this can then be turned into a punishing counterpush. Placing the distraction unit at the last second is usually the most effective way to distract the Barbarian Launcher as the opponent won't be able to react to the unit and eliminate it before the Barbarian Launcher finishes deploying. The defender can also mix up their timing and play their unit immediately to catch their opponent off guard, such as with an immediate Inferno Tower.
- If the player misses their timing for a distraction and the Barbarian Launcher is locked on to their Crown Tower, using any card with a stun effect such as Zap will force the Barbarian Launcher to retarget to the nearest entity, which is helpful in denying a lot of would-be damage.
- In a situation where both players have lost a Crown Tower in opposite lanes, the Barbarian Launcher user should attack the Tower opposite to their destroyed one by placing their Barbarian Launcher in the middle. This limits the areas in which their opponent can deploy troops directly on top of the Barbarian Launcher. Going for the King's Tower is not recommended, as all four sides of the Barbarian Launcher will be vulnerable to being deployed on and the King’s Tower’s higher amount of hitpoints will be difficult to break through consistently.
- Having an area damage spell in hand when attacking with the Barbarian Launcher is very effective, as it can allow the player to defeat low or moderate-hitpoint troops nearly instantly, allowing it to lock onto a Crown Tower.
- Conversely, having an area damage spell in hand when defending against a Barbarian Launcher is also effective. Due to the Barbarian Launcher's high Elixir cost, the units played alongside it are often of low Elixir cost and have low to moderate hitpoints, allowing the player to reap a large amount of spell value.
- The Bomb Tower is very effective against the Barbarian Launcher. It can deal area damage, allowing it to handle multiple Barbarians, and the Barbarian Launcher will do barely any damage to it. However, it will expire before the Barbarian Launcher expires, so make sure that there is something else that attacks the Barbarian Launcher while the Bomb Tower distracts it.
- Even though it does extremely low damage per impact, it is still decent against cloned units, as the drop damage will kill them instantly.
